The Information Publication Scheme (IPS) aims to transform the freedom of information framework from one that responds to individual requests for access to documents, to one that requires Australian Government agencies to take a proactive approach to publishing information.

In accordance with the scheme, the Department of Industry, Innovation, Climate Change, Science, Research and Tertiary Education (DIICCSRTE) Agency Plan provides guidance on how business.gov.au will publish information. As detailed in the plan, business.gov.au will categorise information using the structure below.

Who we are

business.gov.au is the Australian Government’s small business website. It is a single point of access in providing up-to-date quality information from all levels of government for the Australian business community. The site was established to reduce the compliance overheads on Australian businesses through simplifying the way businesses locate and interact with government at the federal, state or territory and local government levels.

What we do

business.gov.au provides free information and practical tools to help start, run and grow Australian businesses. The website provides easy access to credible information and tools from all levels of government - saving businesses time and money. By making business compliance information simple and accessible, business.gov.au encourages and assists businesses to meet their regulatory obligations.

business.gov.au fosters relationships between small business operators and industry associations by providing links to selected organisations that are wholly or partly government funded and that provide services to Australian businesses. business.gov.au information provides small businesses with the ability to establish or improve networks and keep up-to-date with industry trends.

business.gov.au gives access to simple tools and resources to assist businesses, and its content facilitates a growing number of online business transactions with government agencies.
